Wedding Anniversary weekend

Last weekend was our 6th wedding anniversary.

Me on the Raptor 700

We took Friday off work and spent the day quad biking. I rode Brandon's Raptor 700 and he rode a friends Raptor 660. It was heaps of fun and since it was my first time quad biking it was rather scary as well. We spent about half a day riding and what a magnificant day, the sun was out and there was hardly anyone else on the tracks. We went to heaps of different places and got to see some amazing views.

B having a rest at Orange Hut

We stopped for a bite to eat at Orange Hut which was built by the 4WD club but not long after it opened some stupid idiot burnt it down. All thats left is the ruins, melted chairs and the scrap iron.

We carried on down the track towards the lookout but had to turn around as a big gum tree had fallen down at Dobbers Creek and blocked the track. We tried to find a way through but it was no good.

We met a father, his friend and two kids who had driven down from Napier. We also came across two guys, one of which was 65 years old and a bit like Rocket Ron.

We eventually got to the lookout but we had to go through the forest which meant big boggy bits and a bit of strategic riding as we negotiated trees and ruts. A lot for a first time rider to experience.

As we were heading back to the car park I was getting more confident and pushing my skills on the bike more and more. Brandon always rode ahead and made sure the track was clear. On the way out I kept up with Brandon as we raced back to the car park, he thought I was a bit behind him and he stopped and did a big skid. Only I was right behind him and he covered me in mud.

All I saw was a wall of mud coming straight for me and then SPLAT! I had mud all over me, all over my face, in my mouth, all down my front. Brandon turned around and saw me covered in mud. Lucky for him I saw the funny side of it and was laughing a lot.

But no matter how muddy I ended up it was all worth it for the fantastic day and the awesome views.

On Saturday we went out for dinner at Logan Brown and had a yummy yummy meal. The waiter was a bit of a dits which made for good humour, but apart from him the night was excellent. I had the Paua Ravioli and Braised lamb neck and B had the whitebate and Wild Boar pie. The food was fantastic. For desert I had tiny Chocolate cakes and the chef wrote 'Happy Anniversary' in chocolate on the plate. Very funny.

On Sunday we spent some time getting the kitchen cupboards back on. Finally its looking like its coming together. Just need to get the new cooktop and benchtop in. Thats the next phase of our kitchen renovation. Then phase three is the bathrooms - OMG!!!

Monday, lucky for us was a public holiday so we took the dogs up to Peka Peka beach for a run. The weather was still raining but it was just nice to get out of the house. The dogs love it up at the beach, they love swimming and running free. Unfortunately we saw a dead baby dolphin which had washed up on the beach. We called DOC and hopefully someone came to pick it up. It was really sad but that is nature.

Kitchen renovation

So we have started the task of renovating our kitchen. We are doing this all ourselves, except the big bits like plumbing etc.

So far we have removed all the cupboards and drawer faces to paint them. Austin and Bruno think this is great because they can put there heads in and see whats in the cupboards. I have to wash everything before I use it.

We started this last weekend and while painting the neighbour gave us some paua fritters. Yum yum - a nice break from the painting.

We have had the new oven in for a while now. Brandon and Eddie built a new housing unit for it so now we are just in the painting phase. Soon we'll have the cupboards and drawer faces back on. Then its on to picking out a new kitchen bench top. The wooden blinds have been ordered and a new cooktop will be coming shortly.

I can't wait till the kitchen has been done. It has a tired old fashioned look to it so sprucing it up a bit should make cooking more enjoyable and a more creative place to be.

I'll post more photos as we get things done.
